My Idea Is:
There is a group of natives known as the Wichis in Argentina that organize their communities as a matriarchy. I want to make an artistic installation on the subject of mothers in the Bible using the textiles made by the Wichi mothers, which would serve as a dialogue between our two cultures: the original people in this land, and one of immigrants people that helped also to develop Argentina. This would work as a community project in a Jewish art department school. I will bring one or two Wichi mothers to meet the students, and we will with their textiles produce the artwork on the Jewish text. We will read and analyze together the chosen text, as to design the artwork together with the students. We will film and show our experience.
I'll Use My Grant To:
I will use the money to buy the textiles that the Wichi mothers produce, and to travell to the north of the country (Gran Chaco) to meet them. I will need to find more funds to bring two of the mothers to talk to the students.
My Intended Audience:
I am already in touch with two NGO that work helping natives. I am also in touch with Jewish schools in Buenos Aires. I will work withg two assistants and the teacher of the school aand of course the group of selected students (arround 20. Another student should film all the process of the groupal creation, and dialog between all of us.
I'll Share The Experience With Others By:
pictures, videos, exhibitios in different venues in Buenos Aires: Cultural center and Art Gallery. also facebook and my personal site. Perhaps bringing the work also to New York. I will present this experience al LAJSA conference (Latinamerica Jewish Studies Association), which I am part. I also give lectures in different Universities in US talking about my projects.
I am an Argentina visual artist working in many different medias. As a daughter of both parents Auschwitz survivors, I feel as a honor and also as a duty to talk about my strong Jewish identity, joined with my Argentine one. I developed huge projects on Argentine writer Jorge Luis Borges and Kabbalah; and also work on memory, comparing contemporary ornamental tatoos and the numbers tattooed in Auschwitz ( www.mirtakupferminc.net). I teach in my private studio and also work helping in different schools and communities. I am married and have two sons (28 and 20 years). All our family are deeply active inside Jewish education. I am a very smiling curios person, who feels that limits are not only a restriction, but also a challenge to be crossed . I like to work internationally and that is how I am the first international fellow at LABA : house of study. I teach in my private studio and also work helping in different schools and communities.
